Autodesk University: What'd you miss?

By     NOVEMBER 22, 2016

Yet another Autodesk University has come and gone. If you weren't able to make the trip out to Vegas, you may be wondering what you've missed.

This year's opening keynote featured our fearless leader Carl Bass, CTO Jeff Kowalski, 16 year old robotic engineer Anna Nixon, and Rwanda's first trained architect, Christian Benimana. All came with a similar message: the way we work is changing, and new technologies give us the ability to make anything. Per Carl Bass: "…access to infinite computing power and the ability to work together effortlessly is completely changing how design and engineering are done.

Throughout the keynote, transformative technologies such as generative design, robotics, virtual reality and machine learning were discussed – showing a future of customers collaborating with computers to do more than ever imagined. As CTO Jeff Kowalski said it: "These technologies are not threats, they're more like superpowers!" We also heard from 16 year old roboticist Anna Nixon, who has been designing and working with robots since the age of 12! She stressed the importance of encouraging and enabling the next generation of engineers.

On Day 2, Amar Hanspal spoke during the Product Innovation Keynote, explaining the vision for a portfolio of cloud platforms. Hanspal shared: "We are building a set of complete, connected and on-demand experiences for each of our major industries." Following Hanspal, Product leaders showed new capabilities coming to Fusion 360 and BIM 360.

Lastly, on our final day at AU, CMO Andrew Anagnost shared his perspective on driving change through innovation. He encouraged all attendees to "…go do one irreversible thing, for yourself, your company or for your whole industry." He also wrapped up the week's learnings with the help of comedian Rob Corddry (think Hot Tub Time Machine).

Outside of the keynotes, there were tons of great classes this year covering Autodesk Vault, Fusion Lifecycle (PLM), Fusion Connect (IoT) and Configure One (CPQ). You'll be able to watch a select few on demand in the coming weeks – we'll be sure to share once they're available online.
